UPDATE: The situation is currently being communicated through Otakorp’s Chief of Staff. We are trying to come to some sort of resolution, so until the situation is resolved or gets to a point that it can not be resolved, I won’t be disclosing any more information at this point in time. We’re making progress!
However! If you are an artist who did have legitimate issues with Otakon’s staff this year in Artist Alley (be it harassment or just plain rude behavior) and would like to complain about it privately, please send me an ask or email me and I can give you the direct contact information for the person in charge of staffing at Otakorp, the corporation that runs Otakon. This person has been very professional in correspondence and responds to emails in a very timely manner.
I’ve repeatedly heard the story now that one girl was literally bawling at her table after being confronted by staff, and even heard that profanities were exchanged and was overall very rude. The AA staff always has the ability to hang a ban-hammer over our heads as artists, so many of us are scared to be too vocal about our complaints. If you are willing to (calmly and reasonably) voice your complaints about your personal experience to Otakorp, not to the Artist Alley department, it will help a lot to let the people higher up know about mistreatment at the lower levels. Let’s all stay classy and professional. :)
